Gelatin: A Home Remedy for Nausea (2023)

Gelatin: A Home Remedy for Nausea (1)

Recently several of the little tykes in our family have come down with a stomach virus of some sort. So I thought it would be a good time toshare a little trick for dealing with nausea that I learned back when I was just a girl... Gelatin!

Tummies can be tricky, and a lot of times the doctors will tell you that it just needs to run its course. But it can be so hard to watch someone suffer through all of that, and most of the over the counter medicines, which could provide relief, are not labeled for children. That's where this post comes in...

Gelatin is such a simple thing, but it really does work wonders! When I was about 12 years old, my mother and I took a trip up to Washington DC. I'm not sure if it was the altitude change (from Florida) or what, but I became extremely ill. I could not keep anything down, and was running back and forth to the bathroom so much, that I actually brought my pillow and a blanket in with me, and laid right there on the floor! I was miserable! For 2 days this went on, and then my mom's friend, an EMT, told her about the gelatin trick. I'm telling you, it was a small miracle! Within minutes of drinking it, I had already begun to feel better! Within a few hours, we were back to touring the town. It was amazing. Since then I have always kept gelatin in the pantry, just in case...

What to do:
Begin to make your gelatin according to the package instructions - Dissolve the gelatin in the boiling water, and then add the cold water. But instead of putting it in the refrigerator to set up, pour the warm gelatin into a mug, and drink it slowly. The warm gelatin will coat everything as it goes down, calm your stomach, and make you feel much better.

*They say not to use the red flavors, because if you do still throw up, you won't be able to tell if there is blood in it. But to be honest with you, the red ones are pretty much the only flavors that I like, so that's what I have always used (and that's what is in the photo). I just thought that it was worth mentioning.
